Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a trending topic that we have been exploring and discussing as it continues to rapidly advance technologically.

One thing to keep in mind as AI advances, is how this impacts professional settings. An organization must understand the advantages and disadvantages that AI can bring into the workplace, especially, security.

With the rise of technology, we are no strangers to the dangers of cyberattacks and how important cyber security is. This is why it is integral to include the risk of how AI cyberattacks pose a threat to the day-to-day operations of your organization.

In contrast to traditional cyber attacks such as phishing, malware, or denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, AI cyberattacks bring a new level of refinement and automation which removes the human effort of the attack, making it more efficient, methodical, and harder to detect.  The level of precision from AI attacks can cause organizations lasting damage such as: their reputation, financial loss, and privacy violations.

Malicious use of AI is inevitable, which is why it’s important for an organization to keep AI use in mind when planning their security controls, policies, and workflow. Some areas of interest that companies might want to consider incorporating AI security into are the following:

  • Workforce Training – Advancing employee training to emphasize caution on how AI-generated deep fakes can affect emails, messages, and online content,
  • Continuous monitoring – Increasing the frequency of monitoring network and system activities and behaviors to catch any issues or anomalies.
  • Strengthening Authentication and Access Controls Process – Limiting privilege access and making stricter provisioning and deprovisioning guidelines.
  • Evaluating Incident Response Planning – Including AI cyber-attacks as a part of incident response planning.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence presents both significant opportunities and challenges for professional settings. While AI can streamline operations and enhance productivity, it also introduces new cybersecurity risks that organizations must address proactively. By understanding the unique threats posed by AI cyberattacks and implementing robust security measures, organizations can mitigate potential damages.
